![]() ![]() It had rough cantinas and limber Kirk-bait, wit, heart, and also some wisdom. It’s enjoyable to watch power-hungry buffoons scramble for prominence. I'm pretty clearly not saying LGBT+ people aren't humans, I don't know where you're coming from with that.I’m not burdened with Star Wars tradition, this was my first novel of the franchise, yet like several 80s kids I have actually fallen asleep before the saga on several occasions. I don't blame Marvel one bit for firing him when he represents their brand so poorly. It wasn't over his poIitics, it was his unmitigated vulgarity, which he even admits to. He pretends to take the blame but then pivots and talks about what a danger it is to be outspoken if your bosses don't agree with you. ![]() He sees himself not only as a victim, but as a martyr. And he constantly refuses to take the high road. In one tweet, which he later deleted because he said it had become a "funnel for harassment," he wrote, "Winter is coming, you callous fucknecks, you prolapsed assholes, you grotesque monsters, you racists and rapists and wretched abusers, you vengeful petty horrors." I don't think you can really characterize his situation as "one person against a faceless mob", as that kind of discounts that, among the series of tweets that supposedly got him fired (during the Kavanaugh hearings, and directed at, I don't know, Republicans in general? It's not clear) was this one: He did get a novel canceled, which is what made me think it was them. You're right, it wasn't Lucasfilm that fired him. The Alphabet Squadron trilogy is also great so far, and I would recommend it as a better post RotJ trilogy than aftermath so far. Lost Stars is also excellent, it’s a Romeo and Juliet style book set in the Star Wars universe, and is pretty much universally adored, even by people who don’t generally like romance stuff. Here is the link if you would like to join us: ĭark Disciple is also excellent, but it I would only recommend it if you have seen the clone wars tv show, as it was originally intended to be a series of episodes from late in the show. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that we’re gonna be reading book one in our discord book club starting August 20. The Thrawn Trilogy is very good, though I think the second installment is a little weaker. Read other stuff and come back to it later if you want. I don’t think I would recommend starting with this trilogy though. I thought the second book was bad up until part 5, but I did think book 3 was excellent, though I’m not sure it was a worth slogging through the first 2 entries. There is Master and Apprentice by Claudia Grey (the same author of Lost Stars and Bloodline) which is a fun but slightly unusual story of Kenobi and Qui-Gon before the events of TPM. It's behind Bloodline and Thrawn for my favorite Star Wars books.īriefly onto the prequel era, we have Dark Disciple, a story of 7 unproduced clone wars episodes following Ventress and Voss. For another legends book set in the OT timeline, I'd recommend Kenobi, following Obi-Wans time in the desert watching over Luke Skywalker - much more interesting than it sounds! A common criticism of this book is it's not all about Kenobi, he's simply a character in the story, but I really really enjoyed it and highly recommend it. I'm anything but a 'disney bad' kind of guy, but there is so much brilliant content out there it would be a shame to miss it. This is often said to be the best starting place for star wars legends, which I recommend getting into. This is more of a traditional trilogy, with a clear problem and resolution over three books. The author of Thrawn had previously done another trilogy, which is now legends. It follows the rise up the ranks of a imperial tactical genius. Thrawn is the first in a loosely connected trilogy. Lost Stars is a young adult (but don't let that fool you into thinking it's not a mature and moving story - I spent too long not reading it because I thought it would be too kiddy) book about two star crossed lovers in the galactic civil war. In the original trilogy era, we have two of the most popular canon star wars books - Thrawn and Lost Stars. I've also heard fantastic things about Alphabet Squadron and it's sequel, Shadow Fall. ![]() ![]() I would recommend some different starting places though - if you're keen to see the sequel area, I highly recommend Bloodline, a story about Leia set before 7. Also different to what the other guy said, most people I've talked about it with seemed to prefer the third one, and say that the pay off was almost worth it. Not everyone hates it as much as the other guy, there are some people who do genuinely enjoy it.
